Become a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCoach
Colorado RiderCoach Training & Instructor Certification Pathway
If you love motorcycles, care deeply about safety, and enjoy helping others learn, becoming a certified RiderCoach may be the perfect opportunity. RiderCoaches teach MSF-approved motorcycle courses, mentor new riders, and help improve the safety culture within Colorado’s riding community.
What Does a RiderCoach Do?
RiderCoaches are certified instructors who:
Teach MSF curriculum to beginner and experienced riders
Demonstrate riding skills and guide on-range exercises
Support students in developing safe riding habits
Maintain a positive, safety-centered learning environment
At Shift Happens, you’ll join a professional, supportive team dedicated to building confident and safety-conscious riders.
How to Become an MSF RiderCoach in Colorado
Below is the full pathway to earning your Colorado MOST Instructor Certification:
1. Vendor Sponsorship
To begin the RiderCoach Prep process, you must be sponsored by an approved CO MOST training vendor. Shift Happens sponsors selected candidates.
2. Complete the Basic RiderCourse (BRC)
Every prospective RiderCoach—regardless of riding experience—must take the BRC as a student to learn MSF methods from the learner perspective.
3. Shadow a Current RiderCoach
You’ll observe a certified RiderCoach teaching a class, learning course flow, safety protocols, and range setup.
4. Attend RiderCoach Prep (RCP)
RCP is an intensive, two-week training program hosted by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
You will learn:
Effective coaching & communication skills
Classroom facilitation & student engagement
MSF curriculum delivery
Safe riding demonstrations and range management
5. Complete Post-RCP Certification Requirements
After successfully finishing RCP, you will:
Teach multiple courses under a senior RiderCoach or QA Specialist
Complete two mentor-led training classes
Obtain First Aid & CPR certification
Complete sexual harassment prevention training
These steps ensure you can coach safely, consistently, and professionally.
6. Apply for CO MOST Instructor Certification
Once all requirements are met, candidates apply for Colorado Motorcycle Operator Safety Training (MOST) Instructor Certification.
7. Begin Teaching with Shift Happens
When fully certified, you’ll join our training team—helping riders earn their motorcycle endorsement and empowering safer streets across Colorado.
