Refund & Retest Policy

At Shift Happens Motorcycle Rider Training, we believe every student deserves to be treated fairly.

Our policies are designed to give you every reasonable opportunity to achieve your goal while respecting the time of our RiderCoaches, other students, and the resources required to provide quality motorcycle training.

Please review the following policies before registering for your course.

Refund Policy

We understand that plans change. Our refund policy is straightforward and designed to be fair to everyone involved.

Full Refund

Receive a 100% refund when you cancel 7 or more days before your scheduled class.

Partial Refund

Cancel 3–6 days before your scheduled class and you may receive a 50% refund.

No Refund

Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled class start time are not eligible for a refund.

Students who do not attend class without prior notice are also not eligible for a refund.

Course Completion

Your course registration pays for professional instruction, range time, motorcycles, equipment, and a reserved space in the class.

For that reason, course fees are not refunded if you do not successfully complete the course.

Successful course completion requires meeting the participation, safety, knowledge, and riding performance standards required by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and Colorado Motorcycle Operator Safety Training (MOST) program.

Our goal is not simply to pass students.

Our goal is to provide every student a fair opportunity to develop the skills necessary to ride safely and successfully meet the required standards.

Written & Riding Evaluation Policy

Students have two opportunities to successfully complete each required evaluation.

Written Knowledge Test

Students receive:

  • First attempt at the Written Knowledge Test

  • One additional attempt if the first test is not passed

If the Written Knowledge Test is failed twice, the student must repeat the course before another evaluation can be administered.

Riding Skills Evaluation

Students receive:

  • First attempt at the Riding Skills Evaluation

  • One additional attempt if the first evaluation is not passed

While a second attempt may be available, a same-day Riding Skills Evaluation retest is not recommended.

At Shift Happens, we believe the better approach is to give you time to process your RiderCoach's feedback and practice the specific skills that caused difficulty before using your second and final evaluation attempt.

Your Practice Session & Retest Are Included

This is an important part of the Shift Happens approach.

If you do not pass an evaluation on your first attempt and remain eligible to retest, one structured practice session and your retest are included in the original cost of your course.

There is no additional charge for the included practice session or eligible retest.

Your included support may include:

  • One structured practice session

  • One eligible retest

  • RiderCoach instruction and feedback

  • Motorcycle use, if needed

  • Range access

  • No additional practice or retest fee

We don't believe the best way to help a student succeed is simply to administer the same evaluation again.

Your practice session gives you an opportunity to work specifically on the areas that caused difficulty before making your second attempt.

We want your second attempt to be a prepared attempt—not simply another test.

Two Attempts Maximum

Students are allowed a maximum of:

  • Two attempts at the Written Knowledge Test

  • Two attempts at the Riding Skills Evaluation

If either required evaluation is failed twice, the student must repeat the complete course before another evaluation can be administered.

This applies even if you successfully passed the other evaluation.

For example, if you pass the Written Knowledge Test but do not successfully complete the Riding Skills Evaluation after two attempts, you must repeat the course before another riding evaluation can be administered.

Retest Timeframe

Retests must be completed within the timeframe established by Colorado MOST requirements.

Your Shift Happens team will help you schedule your included practice session and retest within the required timeframe.

Waiting until the end of the eligibility period is not recommended. Scheduling promptly gives you the best opportunity to complete your practice and retest within the required window.

Why We Include Practice Before Your Skills Retest

The Riding Skills Evaluation measures specific motorcycle control skills. If something didn't go as planned during your first attempt, immediately repeating the evaluation doesn't necessarily correct the underlying skill.

That's why we prefer to use your included practice session first.

We'll help identify the areas that need improvement, provide focused practice and coaching, and then give you the opportunity to complete your second evaluation.

Our goal isn't to give you unlimited attempts. Our goal is to make the attempts you have count.

The Shift Happens Difference

Your training doesn't necessarily end the moment the original class ends.

If you need an eligible retest, your original course price includes the additional practice session and retest.

No surprise retest fee.
No additional charge for the included practice session.

Just another fair opportunity to work on the skills you need and demonstrate that you can meet the required standard.

That's part of our commitment to giving every student the best reasonable opportunity to succeed safely.
